System restore points are snapshots of your registry settings before you install software. Windows takes a system restore snapshot after you install the operating system. You can use this restore point to clear all settings in the registry. The Windows operating system lets you "roll back" to a specific system restore date.
- 1.Click the Windows "Start" button. In the Search text box, type "system restore" and press "Enter." The system restore wizard opens. Click "Next" on the first screen.
- 2.Click the "Choose a different restore point" option. Click "Next." The next window shows you a list of system restore points and the points' associated dates. These dates are the time and day the restore point was created.
- 3.Scroll down the list to the very first restore point. Click this restore point option and click "Next."
- 4.Click "Restore." The restore point is installed on the computer, which clears the current registry settings. Click "Restart" after the restore completes to reboot the computer.
